With just a few days left until the World Cup, see: Brazil's possible opponents
With the World Cup coming up and the Brazilian team's excellent form, the question that remains is: will the sixth one come this year?
With players like Neymar, Vinicius Jr. and Raphinha playing at a high level, expectations for the title are increasing. After all, will any team be able to stop this attack?
Will Messi or Cr7 finally win the cup?
The rivalry between Messi and CR7 is coming to an end, will either of them win the World Cup?
The 2022 World Cup will be in Qatar, the first to be held in an Arab country.
Normally, the games take place between the months of June and July, but this year it will be different. This is because, during this period, temperatures in the country can reach 50ºC, and therefore it will start on November 20th.
With the postponement of the World Cup, anxiety begins to appear, after all, it is a special moment for Brazilians, as we are the only five-time champion team in the world. Furthermore, with the best squad in recent times, Brazil is very strong to compete for the cup.
Brazil's games at the 2022 World Cup:
So let's see what our team's path will be like in this World Cup:
Brazil is the team in 1st place on the list of FIFA's best teams, followed by:
- 2nd Belgium.
- 3rd Argentina.
- 4th France.
- 5th England.
- Among other giants of world football.
So, if our national team is the team to beat, who will be Brazil's biggest opponent in this cup?
The challenge begins with the group bracket, where our team will face Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.
Follow the days and times of Brazil's games in the group stage:
- Brazil x Serbia – November 24th (Thursday), at 4pm
- Brazil x Switzerland – November 28th (Monday), at 1pm
- Cameroon x Brazil – December 2nd (Friday), at 4pm
Opponents in the Group Stage
The group stage is the initial moment of the cup, where the teams play without so much pressure, as the classification is given by the sum of the points resulting from 3 games, against each other, where the 2 best placed in each group move on to the knockout stage.
Brazil is in a not so strong group, so losing a game or drawing is not a big problem, after all, the team can recover later, and as there are two teams that qualify, our team is in a calm situation in relation to this first phase.
Let's talk a little more about our first opponents in this cup.
By coincidence, Serbia and Switzerland were our opponents in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup, and Cameroon in the 2014 World Cup.
Serbia and Switzerland are European teams of great technical quality, who played very tough games against Brazil in the last World Cup.
Cameroon is also a strong team, but Brazil never had any problems beating them, and in the 2014 World Cup we won 4-1 in a calm game.
Without a doubt, our team remains the favorite in the group, but considering the history of games, Switzerland and Serbia appear to be Brazil's two main opponents in this group stage.
Brazil's opponents in the Mata-Mata
Now thinking further, in the knockout stage, at this stage of the tournament the team that wins advances to the next stage, and whoever loses will say goodbye to the competition, thus until the final.
Now it's all or nothing, and this is where Brazil will face its biggest opponents, as those who qualify for this stage are the best teams in their groups.
To understand who Brazil could face, it is important to understand how the classification works.
The two teams with the most points in each group will qualify for the knockout stages.
How the World Cup knockout classification works:
The first place in group A will play with the second place in group B, and the first place in group B will play against the second place in group A, and so on with the other groups, as in the example below:
- 1st place group A x 2nd place group B.
- 1st place group B x 2nd place group A.
- 1st place group C x 2nd place group D.
- 1st place group D x 2nd place group C.
- 1st place group E x 2nd place group F.
- 1st place group F x 2nd place group E.
- 1st place group G x 2nd place group H.
- 1st place group H x 2nd place group G.
As our team is in group G, Brazil's greatest direct opponents after the group stage, in the round of 16, will be Uruguay, which is not listed as one of the favorites, however has a cast that could surprise for this cup, and Portugal by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Uruguay has players in excellent form in its squad, such as Arrascaeta and Cavani, as well as Valverde and Darwin Núñez, great promises in world football.
If Brazil advances further in the competition, to the quarterfinals and semi-finals, we could end up facing Messi's Argentina, or the much feared Germany.
As if the path wasn't difficult enough, if Brazil advances to the final, they could face the following teams as opponents: France, current champion, or Belgium, who eliminated us in the last cup.
