Corinthians has been on a title drought since 2019, where they managed to win the Paulista championship over São Paulo.

In fact, when it comes to national and international titles, the last one was the 2017 Brazilian Championship.

But in 2022, even without winning titles, Corinthians had great campaigns.

Firstly, they managed to qualify for a quarter-final in the Libertadores against Boca Juniors, even with their main players injured.

However, he had the misfortune to catch the Flamengo team, packed and without any absences, being eliminated by the Rio team.

They also reached the final of the Copa do Brasil in a surprising campaign, managing to draw and go to penalties in an exciting game. But as football has things like that, the helm lost and was only in second place.

His classification in the Brazilian championship was not bad, and represents an improvement compared to recent years after winning, check it out:

  •  2018 – 13th place
  • 2019 – 8th place
  • 2020 – 12th place
  • 2021 – 5th place
  • 2022 – 4th place

The team has been looking for better positions year after year, after the drop in performance it had after winning the title in 2017.

And with the prize for the positions achieved in recent championships, such as the quarter-finals of the Libertadores da América, 2nd place in the Copa do Brasil and 4th place in the Brasileirão, the black and white team gathers cash to reinforce the team and come with everything in 2023.

The betrayal of the last coach, Vitor Pereira

After a long attempt to negotiate with Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira, the team needs to look for another coach.

In fact, the helmsman's preference for the coach to stay was visible, as he received several facilities to renew.

The team's management gave him plenty of time to decide on the renewal, three weeks. Vitor Pereira justified that he would have to be absent for family reasons, which was completely accepted by the club.

Even with the intention of leaving, the team offered the coach carte blanche to conduct all the team's planning, including being able to make signings that were in his interest.

The efforts were great, even the financial resources gained by the team in the last year would be used to make the squad more competitive.

Even so, the Portuguese refused the offer and everything that was offered with the justification that he would have to be absent due to his family.

However, president Rodolfo Landim confirmed that he has a verbal agreement with Pereira, where he will lead Flamengo next season. This caused irritation among the Corinthians board.

The team's planning was hampered, as the technical team reserved the signings for the Portuguese to do what they thought necessary.

Now Corinthians needs to run to avoid problems next season.

The first step has been taken, after the betrayal of “Vitor Pereira”, the new coach has already been defined.

The soap opera is over, the new coach has been defined

Corinthians announced who their coach will be for 2023 and the name is already known among the Black and Whites.

Fernando Lázaro was announced on the club's social media as the team's new coach.

The coach has been an employee of the club since 1999, where he worked in various roles and was even a performance analyst during the Tite era.

And above all, the assistant was the team's coach in 2021. After Mancini's dismissal, the coach was in charge for 7 games, with six wins and a draw, leaving fans' expectations high.

In 2023, Corinthians competed in the Libertadores, the Campeonato Paulista, Brasileirão and the Copa do Brasil.

With a coach of this confidence, the club's hopes of being able to take home one of the titles increase a lot.
