Results of the 2022 World Cup games: Third day

The World Cup in Qatar has started, check out the score and details of these first games.

With a great debut, the Brazilian team seems to have managed to fit all the pieces together and form a great team.

However, the team's number 10 suffered an ankle injury and the severity is still being determined, see the details below.

What was Neymar's injury?

The player suffered an injury while playing for Brazil, against the Serbian team, on his debut in the competition.

Once again, the athlete is threatened with injury, after being left out of the final games in 2014, and arriving shortly after an injury for the competition in Russia in 2018.

The injury was to his ankle, as stated by the Brazilian team doctor who, after an MRI, found a lateral ligament injury, together with a small bone edema.

Furthermore, Neymar has a history of ankle injuries. In the last two years, he had 6 injuries where he had to be sidelined.

However, this time, the various damages caused over the years can help the player recover faster.

The fact that the athlete has experienced several old injuries and has already recovered from a tear in the same location can facilitate healing.

For the next games against Switzerland, next Monday, November 28th and Friday, December 2nd against Cameroon, the athlete is already out.

The hope is that he recovers in time to play the knockout.

However, the player spoke out on social media and said that if he is not better by the end of the group stage, he will play even injured.

As it is probably Neymar's last World Cup, the player does not want to be left out in any way.

How did the injury happen?

The injury happened during the game against Serbia, where Brazil had an excellent performance, with good offensive plays being created.

Most of them passing through Neymar's feet.

However, in the 22nd minute of the second half, after an attacking move, the Serbian player, Milenkovic, made a move to remove the ball from Neymar, who stepped on the defender's foot, thus twisting his ankle.

From what is known so far, the injury suffered was a sprain, being “a contusion that occurs when there is a lateral movement of an intensity beyond normal”, as defined by the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics.

After this sprain, the player was replaced and, already on the bench, he appeared quite uncomfortable.

When treated by the technical team, he appeared to be feeling a lot of pain in his ankle, even after applying ice to the area.

Despite this, the player retired to the locker room walking, without assistance, giving a positive signal, amid great concern.

Can Neymar stay out of the World Cup?

The injury suffered by the athlete is very common in the world of football and does not present long-term risks. However, depending on the severity, recovery time can take days or even months.

This type of ankle damage has as its main symptoms swelling and pain in the area, as was clearly visible in the game's broadcast images.

There are three levels of severity for this type of injury:

Grade one, which is mild and there is only one stretch, grade two, when there is a partial ligament injury and grade three, in the situation where the ligament injury is total.

We already know that Neymar's injury is a ligament injury, it remains to be seen what degree it is.

Apparently, it appears to be a medium injury, as the athlete's return is scheduled for the knockout stage, if Brazil advances.

Now we can only hope for the recovery of the player, who is currently a key player in the functioning of this team.

Brazil has good options to temporarily replace the player, such as Rodrygo and Everton Ribeiro. However, the midfield without the number 10 loses a lot of its creative capacity.

Neymar's simple presence on the field frees up more space for other Brazilian athletes, as he is always marked by two players.

The chase in football

It's not new that Neymar is being chased on the field. Currently, he is the player who suffers the most fouls in the world of football!

In the game against Serbia, 9 of the 12 fouls in the game were on Neymar, being the player who suffered the most in the group stage. Could it be a coincidence?

Sometimes, they foul the player visibly with the intention of hurting him.

The athlete has been in conflict with football trends for years. His individual plays and style of play irritate opponents, who don't know how to deal with them and end up attacking.

Even with several injuries, the player never changed the way he played, and today he is the main inspiration for the biggest promises in Brazilian football.

With fewer and fewer “different” players playing in football, Neymar's stance needs to be seen as necessary.

Defending a style of play that established Brazil as a football country, which has players who go head-to-head, who dribble and play with boldness.

His influence is reflected in the new generation of Brazilian players, such as Vini Jr, Antony and Raphinha, who currently shine on the biggest teams in Europe for playing this way.

Other players of Neymar's importance are not pursued in this way. Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi do not suffer the number of fouls that the Brazilian player suffers.

The problem isn't just the game mode, it's what the player represents.

And once again, he leaves one of the biggest competitions on the planet injured, due to a persecution that goes beyond the player himself, being a persecution against art football.

With Neymar out, check out in detail who the Brazilian team's biggest promises are to try to win the title, in the article below.
