What is the Copa Libertadores?

The Copa Libertadores de América is the biggest competition in Latin America, bringing together the best clubs from each country.
Currently, it is the most important competition for Latin American teams, and it is always a very close contest.
The great importance lies in the significant recognition the club gains by participating, but mainly in the prize money.
How does this championship work?
This competition works as follows, having 3 phases: the pre-Libertadores, the group stage, and the knockout stage.
Furthermore, the participants are determined by the criteria of the countries affiliated with CONMEBOL; therefore, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela decide which teams will participate.
Each country has a specific number of slots; in Brazil, for example, the top six finishers in the Brasileirão (Brazilian Championship) and the winner of the Copa do Brasil (Brazilian Cup) are eligible to participate.
In total, 47 teams qualify, with some going directly to the group stage, and others needing to play in the preliminary rounds to reach the group stage.
For the group stage, 32 teams qualify, where they will be divided into 8 groups of 4 teams.
The teams in these groups will play against each other, and the two highest-ranked teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
From the group stage onwards, the games will be knockout matches, meaning that whoever wins continues, and whoever loses is out.
This process continues until only one team remains, the ultimate champion of the Copa Libertadores.
Furthermore, the winner of the Libertadores Cup also earns a spot in the Club World Cup.
That's why teams fight so hard for the championship title.
