It's nothing new that Fluminense is evolving a lot year after year, and consolidating itself as one of the powers of Brazilian football.

The question is, what makes this climb so fast and so successful? This is what we will try to explain in this article.

Titi's trust in Daniel Alves

Titi's trust in Daniel Alves and the friendly relationship will bring experience and calm behind the scenes of the Brazilian team.

After the great campaigns of 2010 and 2012, the tricolor no longer achieved the great seasons of the golden era, until the arrival of Diniz.

The planning for training athletes, combined with the coach's “Dinizismo”, the team returned to occupy the top of the table.

What brought Fluminense back to the top?

The tricolor team, after winning the titles in 2010 and 2012, had a huge drop in performance, losing competitiveness and in most years being in the middle of the table.

However, results do not appear overnight, today's good phase is the result of a lot of preparation in the past.

After years of investing in the preparation of athletes, and with the arrival of coach Diniz in 2019, returning in 2022, Fluminense is once again competing for the top of the table in 2020. Furthermore, in the current season it had a record score.

Check out the team's positions in the Brasileirão in recent years:

  • 2014: sixth, 61 points
  • 2015: thirteenth, 47 points
  • 2016: thirteenth, 50 points
  • 2017: fourteenth, 47 points
  • 2018: twelfth, 45 points
  • 2019: fourteenth, 46 points
  • 2020: fifth, 64 points
  • 2021: seventh, 54 points
  • 2022: third, 70 points

With the success in 2022, the team is having the club's third best campaign, behind only the years in which it was champion in 2010 and 2012.

After all, what is the club's secret to growth?

Playing style

Coach Fernando Diniz, after the bad 2019 campaign, returns at the end of 2021 and makes the club have a brilliant campaign.

This style of play suited the Fluminense squad and helped the team maintain good performance throughout the year.

So, what is so special about the coach, that he is having so much success with his style of play, which, in fact, is more similar to a philosophy. Get to know Dinizism.

The coach has been applying this “philosophy” to the clubs he visits, but, after all, what is it?

Dinizism

It is a style of play where the team gives up a solid defense line and goes on the attack, advancing the lines so that the greatest number of players can reach the opponent's field.

In other words, always looking for a short passing line, aiming to leave your official number 10 free to find a connection to the center forward and the wingers.

Speaking of names, in the Fluminense team, the one who plays this distribution role is the midfielder, PH Ganso, and usually the activated center forward is the top scorer German Cano, both players are great highlights of this team.

This style of play, even if the team loses, provides a very active match, where the team always ends up attacking its opponent.

What does the team think of this style of play?

Midfielder André, one of the club's highlights, in an interview, praised the method used by Fernando Diniz.

Stating that the coach is “a coach outside the curve”, that is, different from the others. And he considers it one of the best in Brazil.

Diniz's performance in charge of Fluminense:

The coach, even during some problems during the year, maintained his authentic playing style and ended up with a very positive performance.

He was the team's coach in 2019, but in a campaign well below what he managed to achieve in the current season.

In the first spell, he still had the same game proposal for the team, but the squad didn't fit and he didn't achieve good numbers.

In 2019 there were 44 games in charge, with just 18 wins, 11 defeats and 15 draws. As for the goals, 71 goals were scored and 48 conceded.

The coach soon left the club after several defeats, and even the fans asked for his departure.

However, in 2022, the situation is completely different, check out the coach's numbers in this new stage at the club:

There were 42 games with 24 wins and only nine draws and nine defeats, which left the club third in the Brazilian Championship.

Unlike 2019, where he left the club in the relegation zone and the fans booing, this year he left the club already qualified for the group stage of the Libertadores, and received an ovation in the last game against São Paulo.

In short, Fluminense recognized the importance of Fernando Diniz, and is already negotiating to renew the coach's contract.

Preparation of players from the base

Fluminense is one of the teams with the best use of athletes trained in the youth divisions.

Every year the Rio tricolor reveals prodigies that end up standing out in Brazilian football.

The latest jewel carved by the club, which has been successful, is midfielder Martinelli, a standout in the game against Flamengo, he came off the bench and immediately scored a goal.

The seeds planted in the past are beginning to bear fruit and are one of the secrets to this team's current success.

In other words, all the dedication and investments in the past are converted into good players to form the team in the future.

Some of the stars trained by the Xerém club:

  • Thiago Silva (CHE)
  • Fabinho (LIV)
  • Pedro (FLA)

In addition to Dinizismo, another very strong philosophy implemented in the club, is precisely that of training athletes, and they work together.

The club invests very heavily in the base, training athletes, and since formation, this style of play has been established.

The Under 20 team is already one of the strongest clubs in the category, managing to maintain an unbeaten record for 60 games.

Furthermore, the other categories are not left behind, the under 17s reached the quarter-finals of the Brasileirão.

In the under 15s, they reached the semi-finals in the RJ State Championship.

The team makes major investments in training methodologies, with professionals of the highest level. And all of this contributes to the success of this great team.
