Main coaches of the World Cup

Coach training player

The coach defines how a team will play, in the case of the World Cup, he even defines the players who will make up that team.

A coach in charge of his national team is a time when it is possible to put together a more robust tactic, as he has the best players in that country at his disposal.

Check out their profile and what each coach will propose for their teams in this World Cup.

Tite – Brazil

To begin with, it couldn't be any different, let's talk a little about the “professor”, as the Brazilian national team coach is called by the players.

Tite became well known when he coached Corinthians in winning the Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 2012, drawing everyone's attention for his tactical intelligence.

Even in command of a technically weaker team, through the use of a strategy to nullify Chelsea's strengths, Tite ensured that the São Paulo team managed to overcome the European giant.

Then, when he took over as coach of the Brazilian national team in 2016, he was faced with a difficult challenge: preparing Brazil to play in a World Cup in 2 years.

In command of the selection, Tite presents the following numbers:

  • Games: 74
  • Wins: 56
  • Draws: 13
  • Losses:5
  • Pro goals: 162
  • Goals conceded: 29

Since of the 5 defeats, only two were in official matches, one against Belgium and one against Argentina.

It is with these numbers that Tite comes in command of the Brazilian team to try to win the sixth title and carve his name in history.

Lionel Scaloni – Argentina

Scaloni arrived at the helm of the Argentine national team in a different way. After the departure of Sampaoli, who was the current coach, Lionel was in charge of the national team on an interim basis, that is, until a new coach was selected.

Gradually, Scaloni gained the trust of fans and players and ended up assuming the role of permanent coach. Being his first career job as a coach, after that he has surprised everyone.

At the moment, the coach has 36 games without losing in charge of Argentina, and managed to win the Copa América in 2021, ending a 28-year drought without major titles.

The Argentina national team has the following numbers in retrospect:

  • Games: 52
  • Wins: 31
  • Draws:12
  •  Defeats: 4
  • Pro goals: 90
  • Goals conceded: 29

Hansi-Flick – Germany

The Germany coach's mission is to continue the work of his predecessor, Joaquin Löw, who transformed German football, winning the 2014 World Cup.

The current coach was Löw's assistant during the transformation of the national team, and knows very well the paths to success. However, the team no longer has the number of experienced players it had in 2014.

Germany is going through a period of reformulation, with players in the squad already close to retiring, and many new players arriving. This will be the German coach’s greatest mission.

Here are the numbers:

  • Games: 13
  • Wins: 9
  • Draws:4
  •  Losses: 0
  • Pro goals: 42
  • Goals conceded:8

Luis Enrique – Spain

The Spain coach is also going through a period of reformulation. The glorious team that conquered the world in 2010 is facing difficulties to achieve a good campaign.

Luis Enrique has the mission of putting this group back together. The hole left by Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets and many other stars needs to be filled.

Spain arrives with a very young team for the World Cup, but full of talents, such as: Pedri, Gavi, among many other promises of world football.

The coach's numbers in charge of the group are modest, but consistent:

  • Games: 31
  • Wins: 17
  • Draws:10
  •  Defeats: 4
  • Pro goals: 63
  • Goals conceded: 27

Didier Deschamps – France

The coach is the current World Cup champion with the France team, and is trying to repeat the feat and be the first coach to win the competition twice.

Only two teams managed to win this tournament consecutively, Brazil and Italy, and neither of them had the same coach.

Furthermore, Deschamps has a big challenge, the French team arrives shaken. After all, they have been suffering from major absences, players who were extremely important in winning the last title were injured.

Names like: Kante, Pogba, Kimpembe were cut due to injury, and the list doesn't stop there. Player Nkunku was injured a few days before the start of the World Cup.

The coach will have a big challenge in being able to fit substitutes in place of these stars, especially with so little time to prepare.

The coach's numbers remain impressive, and even with the absences, France has a very strong squad:

  • Games: 129
  • Wins: 83
  • Draws:26
  •  Losses: 20
  • Pro goals: 264
  • Goals conceded: 112
