  • Tunisia 1×0 France
  • Australia 1×0 Denmark
  • Poland 0x2 Argentina
  • Mexico 2×1 Saudi Arabia

It was Argentina's day to fight for its place in the round of 16, after all, after losing the first game of the World Cup to Saudi Arabia, the life of the Albiceleste team in the competition depended on beating Poland.

In addition to the fight for the brothers to stay, it was Tunisia's day to surprise and snatch a victory from the current champions, the French.

Obviously, France rested some of the starting players, but even so, it does not negate the brilliance of the Tunisians' game. However, even with the victory, the African country is out of the competition.

Mexico also fought for a place, which almost managed to do so, but Saudi Arabia scored a goal and, based on the tiebreaker criteria, Poland took the place.

Therefore, see below the complete details of each match:

Tunisia x France

Overview:

Tunisia pulled one over on France in the first game of the day.

The French team went to give some players a rest, as they were already qualified, but they didn't count on the momentum of the Tunisians, who went all out against the current champions.

A curious fact is that in the Tunisian team, there are 10 players born in France.

First time

Firstly, Tunisia started the attack, which needed to win by the highest score possible to try to qualify.

After just seven minutes, Tunisia's first goal came from Ghandri, but unfortunately the player was offside, this would have been the perfect start for the African team.

France reached the opponent's goal with Coman, who wasted the chance.

Second time

The goal came in the second half, in a play by Khazri, who passed two markers and hit the corner.

After the goal conceded, France used great players like Mbappé to try to equalize, and the goal even came in stoppage time, through the feet of Griezmann, but was disallowed due to a controversial offside.

Situation of the teams in their groups:

Even with the great victory, Tunisia was left out, as Australia managed to beat Denmark, and according to the tiebreaker criteria, the Australians will advance, together with France.

Australia vs Denmark

Overview

Unlike the previous clash, where France was already classified, this was a direct duel.

With that, the teams gave their all to try to advance to the round of 16.

First time

The shots on goal started early, and Denmark was better in the first half, especially Australia's goalkeeper Ryan, who made good saves.

The clearest chance of the first half was after 10 minutes, with Jensen shooting hard into the right corner of the goalkeeper, who managed to catch it.

Second time

Australia managed their first effective shot on goal, right after the second half, coming back better than the Danes.

The goal came soon after, at 59. In a good individual play on the left, Leckie hits the corner and scores the only goal of the game, but perhaps the most important of the group stage for Australia.

Situation of the teams in their groups:

Being a direct confrontation, Australia managed to qualify in 2nd place, this being the second time that the country will participate in the knockout stages.

After Denmark's good form in the Euro Cup, the lack of effectiveness in the attack ended up taking the team out of the World Cup, which scored just one goal in the entire competition.

Poland x Argentina

Overview

Argentina was fighting for survival in the competition. With just one victory, the team needed to win.

However, Poland could even draw the game, as long as neither Mexico nor Saudi Arabia won with more than two goals difference.

First time

The Polish team believed that their opponents would not be able to overcome their goal difference and bet on a draw, adopting a defensive posture.

The Argentines played to score goals early, and Messi almost scored after 10 minutes.

At several moments Argentina had chances to score, but they were all stopped by the giant Polish goalkeeper, Szczęsny.

In the 38th minute, a penalty was awarded in favor of Argentina, which Messi took and was stopped again by the star of the Polish national team.

Second time

Even with the goalkeeper's great performance, Mac Allister opened the scoring for Argentina, in the first minute of the second half, with a cross.

Poland's best chance in this game was from a dead ball, where Glik sent it wide.

Argentina's second goal came with Julian Alvarez, the boy who is the highlight of this team, received it in the area and hit it in the drawer, scoring a great goal.

Situation of the teams in their groups:

Argentina achieved victory, and first place in group C, and faces Australia in the round of 16.

The Polish team was very lucky in this one, as Mexico won the game with the two goals needed to qualify, however, Saudi scored a goal in the 95th minute, taking the Mexicans out of the competition.

Saudi Arabia vs Mexico

Overview

Another game where the two teams face each other directly for the place, but with a few more conditions.

Firstly, Poland could not win the game, and the goal difference of the winner of this match needed to be greater than that of the Poles.

First time

Mexico started moving early in attack, with good exchanges of passes at the edge of the area. He had his first chance to open the scoring three minutes into the game, but wasted it.

During this first stage, he continued to pressurize the attack, practically having all the chances, except for a foul near the area that the Saudi sent out.

Second time

The goals only came in the second half, with a goal from Henry Martín after a cross.

After that, there was a beautiful free kick by Luis Chávez, who sent a shot with great effect into the drawer and didn't reach the goalkeeper.

Mexico had several chances to score during the match, and managed to surpass Poland on goal difference and qualify, however, after the two goals, the best chances were lost, and the other goals scored were offside.

Finally, as it is the World Cup, Saudi Arabia scored another goal in stoppage time, ending Mexico's dreams of qualifying.

Al-Dawasari scored after a quick pass, he is the main highlight of the Saudi team.

Situation of the teams in their groups:

Even with a good match, neither team managed to surpass Poland's goal difference, thus saying goodbye to the World Cup.
