If you ask a Vasco fan who Carlos Roberto Gama de Oliveira is, he probably won't know him, but if you ask him about Roberto Dinâmite, the memory of his idol will certainly come to mind.

The player, better known as “Roberto Dinamite”, was born on April 13, 1954, in Baixada Fluminense, and began his story with the hill giant early.

Firstly, at the age of 14 he was already playing for the team's youth teams, he had no idea that one day he would be that club's biggest idol.

Dinamite made his professional debut in 1971, when he was already a great football prospect, but he only scored a goal in the third game. 

And it was when the name, which would accompany him throughout his career, appeared on the cover of countless newspapers, on this date, the “dynamite boy” appeared.

So, this is Roberto Dinamite, and his brief start in Brazilian football.

Early career 

At a young age, Roberto Dinamite displayed immense talent and potential, but he truly exploded into Brazilian football when he led Vasco to win the team's first Brasileirão.

In this way, he established his credibility as one of the great players in Brazilian football. 

With determination and determination, Dinamite established himself as one of Brazil's main players, quickly becoming an idolized figure among the Vasco fans.

However, this achievement for Vasco was just his beginning in the competition where he would be the top scorer to this day.

Roberto Dinamite, Vasco's eternal idol

Above all, the player was one of the most important characters in the club's history, participating in several decisive moments.

With his career marked by goals and many comings and goings, let's talk a little about this star's history at the club.

The importance for the club

The player, after his debut goal, scored more than 700 goals for the club, which is more than many players manage to achieve in a lifetime.

To this day, the player has his name marked in history as holder of the Brasileirão top scorer record with 190 goals.

Furthermore, he has more than 1000 games with the Cruzmaltino shirt, more than any player in the club's history.

On top of that, in addition to the title of Brazilian champion, the player also helped Vasco win five Carioca championships.

Brief stay in Spain

After all the player's success in Brazil, he was seen by big European clubs, and was signed to play for Barcelona.

However, he didn't get used to Spanish football and soon returned to the place that was his home, the Vasco team.

And his return was one of the most memorable episodes in the star’s history.

In the game that marked his return for the club, Vasco faced Corinthians, in a Maracanã with 100 thousand people.

Roberto simply ended the game, scored five goals for the Cruzmaltino team over their rival, the game ended with a total score of 5 x 2 for the hill giant.

Before retiring, the idol also ventured into other clubs, such as Portuguesa in 1989, but in 1991 he returned to Vasco to end his career at his favorite club.  

Leadership by the presidency

Even after retiring, the player continued to contribute to the club, assuming the presidency in 2008.

As soon as he took office, he already had to deal with the club's relegation to series B of the Brazilian championship.

But an idol is an idol, in 2010 he won the Brazilian series B championship, and the following year, 2011, he won the Copa do Brasil title, an unprecedented achievement for the hill giant.

Player's passage through the Brazilian National Team

Roberto Dinamite played in two World Cups, the 1978 and 1982 editions.

In total, he managed to score 26 goals with the Brazil shirt, in 1978, in the Argentine Cup, he was the team's top scorer, scoring three goals in five games.

In 1982 he was Telê Santana's reserve and did not take the field in this competition.

In almost winning the 1983 Copa América, he was also the Brazilian team's top scorer, with three goals. 

Brazil came second, losing to Uruguay, but Roberto Dinamite's name was fixed as the tournament's top scorer.

  • Carioca Championship top scorer: 1978 (19 goals), 1981 (31 goals), 1985 (12 goals)
  • Copa América top scorer: 1983 (3 goals) 
  • 1,110 games for Vasco da Gama (player who wore the Club's shirt the most)
  • 708 goals for Vasco da Gama (highest scorer in the Club's history) 
  • Top scorer in the history of the Brazilian Championship (190 goals) 
  • Top scorer in the history of the RJ State Championship (279 goals) 
  • Top scorer in the history of São Januário (184 goals)
