Game details:
With the defeat of Brazil and Portugal, the great favoritism for the title went to current champions France and Argentina.
Brazil x Croatia
Opening the quarterfinals, this was this great duel, the only five-time champion team in the world, against last year's finalist.
Favoritism, as always, was on the side of the Brazilian team, on the other hand, luck was not.
First time
At the beginning of the game, the Croatian team dominated, maintaining good possession of the ball and making Brazil wear out physically.
Modric and Kovacic managed to dominate the midfield sector and hold Brazil back without being able to make offensive moves.
However, the best chances were Brazilian, with several arrivals with Neymar and Vini Jr.
Second time
When the second half came back, Brazil came back much better, and after Tite's changes, the team fell into place.
Furthermore, the entry of Rodrygo in place of Vini Jr, and Antony in place of Raphinha gave speed and creativity to the attack.
With these changes, Brazil had clear chances to score with Neymar and Paquetá, both prevented by the Croatian goalkeeper.
Extension
As the tie persisted, the two teams went into extra time.
The Brazilian team remained on the attack, and the goal came, in the final minute of extra time given by the referee, Neymar created a beautiful combination with Paquetá and scored a great goal.
The goal marked the end of the first half of extra time, now there were just 15 more minutes to guarantee classification in the semis.
Brazil came back and continued to attack, and this was their fatal error.
Fred lost the ball in attack, and with the entire defense poorly positioned, Brazil suffered a deadly counterattack, which ended in a goal from Petkovic, returning the tie to the scoreboard, therefore, the game went to penalties.
Penalty shootout
Brazil lost on penalties, with Rodrygo having his shot saved, and Marquinhos hitting the post.
After Brazil's great recovery and Neymar's great goal, in 10 minutes the world collapsed and Brazil fell once again.
Argentina x Netherlands
With Brazil eliminated, the party went to the Argentines, which was not bigger because they needed to beat the Netherlands to guarantee their place first.
The Netherlands had the difficult task of stopping the Argentine attack, which had Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, and mainly, Messi.
The game was marked by fouls and confusion, where it almost ended in a general fight.
First time
The first half started truncated, with the Netherlands playing well back and Argentina failing to develop their game.
After good chances for each side, it was Argentina who reached the goal first, with a brilliant pass from Messi, Molina only took it from the goalkeeper to open the score.
Second time
In the second half, with the Netherlands seeing their place disappearing, the game began to heat up.
In the 70th minute, Messi scored from the penalty spot, leaving the game in check. It was then that the Dutch coach decided to change his strategy, placing two strong players in the air and betting on headed goals.
The turnaround began in the 83rd minute with Weghorst scoring a great header and putting the Dutch back into the game.
Almost at the end, with Argentina with the place in their hands, the Albiceleste team saw Weghorst score again, in a rehearsed play in the last minute, leaving everything tied and taking the game to extra time.
Extension
Extra time was marked by fouls and confusion, with both teams attacking.
In the last minutes, Argentina put great pressure on the opposing team, but the mechanical orange managed to defend their goal.
Penalty shootout
Van Dijk started by missing his shot, then Messi converted, giving Argentina an early lead.
After that, the Argentine goalkeeper took another shot, with Berghuis also wasting his shot.
With a big advantage, Argentina just had to hit two more shots, but Martinez missed, leaving all the responsibility to Lautaro, who took the shot and scored, guaranteeing Argentina the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Morocco x Portugal
A game of pure strategy from Morocco, which recognized its opponent's superiority and adopted a defensive posture.
The Moroccans, who are surprising everyone in this World Cup, did yet another thing and left Portugal out of the semi-finals.
First time
Portugal imposed its game, and went up early, having its first opportunity three minutes into the game.
However, Morocco was the one who managed to score first, En-Nesyri rose beautifully and scored with a header, scoring the only goal of the game.
A few minutes later, Bruno Fernandes even put a ball on the crossbar that almost missed it.
Second time
The second half was Portugal's attack against Morocco's defense, which recognized that holding on to the result was its best option.
Great highlight for the Moroccan goalkeeper, who was one of the main players in that game against Portugal.
England x France
The last classified for the semis were the French, who beat England in a very open match, with both teams going on the attack.
First time
The first goal came early, with a beautiful shot by Tchouaméni from outside the area, giving peace of mind to the French team who took the lead.
Despite this, England did not feel the blow and continued attacking, they even had two good opportunities with Kane in this stage, but the attacker was unable to convert.
Second time
The English goal only came in the second half, when Saka conceded a penalty, and Kane left everything the same on the scoreboard.
However, the happiness was short-lived, almost at the end of the game, Giroud managed to score with a header.
There was no lack of emotion in this game, three minutes after the French goal, Mount was brought down in the area, and another penalty was awarded in favor of England.
And who's coming to the beat? That's right, Kane again, with the chance to tie the game and force extra time, but the Englishman couldn't handle the pressure and isolated the ball.
England even tried to score in the final minutes, but without success.
Who took the place in the semi was France, who come to try to win the tri.
