Result of the games on the sixth day of the World Cup
Check out all the results from the sixth day of the World Cup:
- 7am – Wales 0 x 2 Iran – Group B
- 10am – Qatar 1 x 3 Senegal – Group A
- 1pm – Netherlands 1 x 1 Ecuador – Group A
- 4pm – England 0 x 0 United States – Group B
Wales ended up in a complicated situation in the table, as they drew the first game, and now lost to Iran.
The team depends heavily on a combination of results to qualify, while Iran takes a breather in the competition and goes all or nothing against the United States.
In group A, a similar situation occurred with Wales. Qatar needed a victory against Senegal to not be so bad in the table, however, the ones who did better were the Senegalese, who now need to beat Ecuador to seek a place in the next phase.
In Holland x Ecuador, balance reigned. The two teams had a chance of qualifying early, despite this, both are in a mess and the classifieds will only appear in the next rounds.
So, see in detail the results of the World Cup games on the sixth day:
Wales v Iran
The two teams fought one of the most competitive matches so far, it was a game for survival in the World Cup.
Wales came from a draw with the United States, and were favorites to win the match.
Iran lost the first game to the Americans, and needed a game to redeem itself, and they did it. Losing or drawing against Wales would mean taking the worst position in the group, but victory and relief arrived for the Iraqis.
In the game, it was the Welsh who started attacking, with Williams, but the shot went wide.
A few minutes later, with the clearest chance of the game for Wales, after a cross, Moore managed to deflect it towards the goal, almost point blank with the goalkeeper, but the Iran defender managed to catch the shot.
Then, the biggest chances came from Iran, who even had a goal prevented. However, the game started to become more open in the second half.
In the 51st minute, Iran hit the post twice in a row, and even had a very dangerous header saved by the Wales goalkeeper.
The goals only came after the Welsh goalkeeper was sent off, after trying to kick a ball that was heading towards his area, but ended up hitting the opposing player, at 85.
In a quick move, Iran managed to score the first goal in the 98th minute and the second in the 100th minute, after the added time.
And with a surprising ending, Iran takes a breather in the competition.
Qatar x Senegal
In this dispute for group A, Senegal took the weight of not having won the opening game and finally achieved victory. On the other hand, Qatar is already eliminated.
The host country's team even tried to hold back the momentum of the Senegalese, who attacked all the time during the game, but at the end of the first half they conceded a goal.
A mistake by the defender, and number 9 Boulaye Dia was the first to score. Then, at the start of the second half, Diédhiou scored the second.
With the second goal conceded, Qatar seems to react. After several offensive plays and great saves from the opposing goalkeeper, Muntari finally managed to score Qataris' first goal in this World Cup.
However, the joy was short-lived and Dieng scored the last goal, ending hopes of a comeback.
Netherlands x Ecuador
A game that was worth leading the group and a possible early classification, however, the two teams ended up 1 x 1 and left everything to be defined in the last rounds.
The Netherlands start the game by scoring their goal very early, after five minutes. In a mistake by the defense, Gakpo kicks hard and opens the score.
However, Ecuador didn't seem to feel the blow and, after the goal conceded, they went at it with all their weapons.
The following minutes were marked by several scoring chances from the Ecuadorian team.
Who, in fact, scored in the first half, but there was a player in an offside position who did not directly participate in the play. The move generated a lot of controversy, but in any case, the goal was disallowed.
Furthermore, most of the plays had the direct influence of Enner Valencia, the team's top scorer, who tied the game right into the second half.
With this, in total, the player has 6 goals in 5 World Cup games, and puts himself ahead of players like Mbappé: five goals in eight games, Romário: five goals in eight games and Garrincha: five goals in 12 games .
England x United States
The England team's game was one of the most anticipated of the day, as the team defeated Iran in its debut.
However, the team found a much more tactically organized team, and the paths to goals found so easily against Iran were not found against the Americans.
The match was very open, with both sides exposing themselves and attacking a lot.
England's main moves came with their full-backs finding good crosses into the area and their best arrival was a cross from Shaw, which Saka sent out.
With a similar way of playing, the United States also reached the flanks a lot, and their main chance was with the team's star, Pulisic, who hit the post.
