Firstly, La Liga is the biggest football championship in all of Spain, where the 20 best teams come together to compete for the title.

The competition is also called the Stars League, as all the biggest stars in world football played in this league.

Some examples of great players who have played in this league are: Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Zidane, Cruyff, Ronaldo Fenômeno, Beckham and many others.

Few great players have spent their careers without playing in this league, as it brings together some of the richest teams in the world.

However, the great football legend, Pelé, never played in that competition.

The great teams that stand out in this competition are, without a doubt, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The competition has the status of being one of the most disputed leagues in the world, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHF), it is 2nd in the ranking.

So you must be wondering which first place goes to the Premier League.

Despite this competition having this status, the truth is that La Liga has become uncompetitive, with the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the dispute is only between the two.

The duo from Madrid and Barcelona have a total of 60 titles, having won more than half of the titles.

In addition to the two, only 7 other teams managed to win La Liga, they are:

Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Real Sociedad, La Coruña, Sevilla and Real Betis.

How does La Liga work?

La Liga works very similar to the system used in Brazilian football, with some small differences.

The Spanish Championship is made up of the 20 best teams in Spain, that is, it is the first division of football in the country.

In it, the system adopted for the dispute is the straight points modality, which you will see the rules to follow.

In a 38-round competition, all teams face each other twice, round and round, so each team plays once as home team and once as visitor.

And then the criteria of running points are used, therefore, the team that wins gets three points, the team that loses gets no points, and the team that draws gets only one point.

The team with the highest score at the end of the 38th round becomes La Liga champion.

However, it is not just the trophy that is disputed, as the top positions in this competition guarantee a place in other competitions.

The Champion, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed earn a direct place in the Champions League, in addition, the 5th and 6th also compete in different competitions.

The 5th placed team wins a place in the Europa League, and the 6th place can play in a knockout round to also try for a place in the same competition.

Finally, the last four placed teams fall to the second division, and give way to the four best placed teams in the Liga Adelante (second division), just as happens in Brazil.
