The Brazilian team debuted with victory, and with one of the biggest questions answered: the team's number 9 was defined, and is already showing what it came for.

In addition to Brazil, major teams also debuted in the competition, such as Portugal and Uruguay.

  •  7am Switzerland 1 x 0 Cameroon
  •  10am Uruguay 0 x 0 South Korea
  • 1pm Portugal 3 x 2 Ghana
  • 4pm Brazil 2 x 0 Serbia

On the fifth day of competition, the first round of the World Cup ended. At this stage, some groups are already well defined, while others are still completely open.

The first game of the day was Cameroon vs Switzerland, in a tight match, with good chances of goals for both sides, but with a victory for the Swiss, Brazil's main competitors in this group stage.

Brazil made its debut against Serbia, and the team had a great performance, especially for the number 9, which was a problem in the team in the last cups. In this one, Richarlison made a point of debuting with two goals.

Between Portugal x Ghana, the game with the most goals of the day, a record was broken. Cristiano Ronaldo became the only player to score goals in 5 World Cups.

Unlike the other games, between Uruguay and South Korea there were no goals. A good result for the Koreans, who managed to come away with one point, despite playing against a team full of stars.

Below, see the details of each match and everything that happened on this fifth day of the World Cup.

Switzerland x Cameroon

The first match of the day started with Brazil's opponents in this group stage.

Cameroon started the game better, achieving, through good deep passes, the first chances of the match.

In the first half, Cameroon was basically the one attacking. Here, it is worth highlighting the excellent performance of Sommer, Switzerland's goalkeeper, who was mainly responsible for keeping the score 0-0.

In the Cameroonians' first attack, Hongla made a good long pass to leave Koulou facing the goal, however, the shot fell into the goalkeeper's hands.

Switzerland's first effective attack came at the end of the first half and, with a corner, Akanji ended up rising above everyone, but headed wide.

For the second half, Switzerland came more offensive. In the 3rd minute, Shaqiri made a play on the wing, which crossed into the area, where Embolo scored.

An interesting fact is that Embolo was born in Cameroon, however, he was naturalized Swiss, that is, practically a goal for a Cameroonian, against his country of origin. This is the first time this has happened in a World Cup.

After the goal conceded, Cameroon lost a lot of rhythm in the game, and most of the big chances went to their opponents. His luck was that Onana, the goalkeeper, was on a very inspired day and prevented his team from conceding any more goals.

Uruguay x South Korea

In the debut of one of the most anticipated teams of this World Cup, Uruguay has great players such as Darwin Núñez, Valverde, Cavani and many other stars, while Korea has Son Heung-min as its main star.

Son, who started the game wearing a mask to protect himself from injury, ended up generating several memes on social media, but on the field, the player was left blank.

The favorites were the Latinos, who started the game with pressure.

Uruguay's main chances appeared late and came from long throws. The first chance came in the 18th minute, where Valverde dominated a pass made by the defense and sent it out over the goalkeeper.

The Uruguayans' clearest chance was Suárez's shot, at 21 in the first half. His teammate supports the ball very close to the small area, but when trying to finish, the attacker misses the ball.

The game was followed by several attacks from Uruguay, however, without any efficient finishing, they still managed to hit the post with two balls.

Korea had its best opportunity to score at 33, with a ball crossed from underneath in the area, but the attacker shot too wide, missing the chance to jump in front of the scoreboard.

However, the draw for the Koreans served, and the bitter taste remained with Uruguay, who had everything it took to win the game.

Portugal x Ghana

A game where the goals only started coming towards the end, but the final minutes were electrifying.

Neither team wanted to give in, but the Portuguese emerged victorious with their generation of new talent led by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

He needed just one game to break yet another record: the only player to score goals in five different World Cups.

The first goal came from him, CR7, who in one play strategically leaves his body to suffer a foul, where the opposing defender, without malice, commits the penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo hits and scores one for Portugal.

But Ghana didn't let it go easily and, a few minutes later, with a cross, the ball was spared and Kudus equalized.

In the end, both teams went fully on the attack and more goals started to come.

João Felix puts Portugal ahead again and Rafael Leão extends it, leaving the game 3-1.

Near the end, Bukari still reduced the score for Ghana and celebrated like Cristiano Ronaldo, but that was it, and the game ended 3-2.

Brazil x Serbia

The most anticipated game of the day, the long-awaited debut of the Brazilian team against the solid Serbia and its team of giants.

The Brazilian team played such an engaging game that the opposing attack didn't even reach Brazil's defensive field.

The game started off somewhat calmly, where Serbia scored high with a line of five and Brazil threatened with Raphinha, however, there were no goals in the first half.

After the nervousness of the debut passed, and with the Brazilian team loosening up, it was a matter of time before the goals started to come.

After several moves where Brazil almost scored with Neymar, Vini JR, and especially Raphinha, the one who really shone was Richarlison.

The number nine scored both goals in the game. One was the leftover shot from Vinicius, the second was a goal of pure skill.

After Vini crossed halfway into the area, Richarlison controlled the ball by throwing it into the air, volleyed it while turning, and scored what could be the most beautiful goal of the World Cup.

After that, it was all Brazil. The ball hit the post, capriciously, with a shot by Casemiro, and came close to being shot by other players.

And with the ghost of the number 9 shirt gone, Brazil finally seems to have fit in.

Thus, the Brazilian team now leads group G, with Switzerland, but has the highest goal difference.
